Ecosystem
Hunting grounds react to hunting. Where the whole server hunts, monsters come back more slowly, and neglected places give bonus experience and loot.
The world is divided into regions, the named hunting grounds, and smaller background zones. The server counts how many spawn monsters die in each of them and changes the respawn pace based on that. Where many people hunt, monsters come back more slowly. Where nobody goes, there are more of them and you get more experience and loot for them.
The current state of the regions, bonuses, alphas and raids is on the World health page, and in the game you can type !ekosystem.
Region health
A region has health from 0 to 100, starting at 50. The server compares the kills from the last 24 h with how many monsters the region's spawn can bring back. When there is a lot of hunting, health drops, and when there is little, it grows.
| State | When | What changes |
|---|---|---|
| depleted | health below 25 | monsters come back more slowly, down to 80% of the normal pace |
| balanced | between the thresholds | nothing |
| overgrown | health above 75 | monsters come back faster, up to 130% of the normal pace, and you get a +10% bonus |
| storm | health 100 | the bonus grows to +20%, and if nobody comes, the region raids a town |
Overgrown regions also have oversized specimens with more health.
Hunting bonus
The bonus applies to every kill of a spawn monster in an overgrown or stormy region. Experience grows by the given percentage, and so does the chance of every loot item. What counts is the place where the monster died, and experience is shared as usual, also in a party.
The bonus goes away by itself once people hunt in the region again, because kills lower its health. A depleted region does not give less experience, monsters just come back more slowly. Summons, oversized specimens, raid monsters and the server's regular raids give no bonus.
Background zones
Hunting grounds outside the regions are split into squares of 64 by 64 tiles on every floor. A zone has health calculated like a region's, but reacts more gently: the respawn changes from 90% to 115% of the normal pace, and an overgrown zone gives +5% experience and loot. Zones have no alphas, storms or raids.
Alpha
When the health of a depleted region drops below 20, its alpha appears: a strong monster with its own name that summons its kin and has better loot. Killing it gives +100% experience, shared as usual by damage dealt. Its summons give no bonus. The alpha leaves after 6 h, or earlier when the region recovers, and the next one can appear after 6 h at the earliest.
Raid
A region with a storm above it for 12 h marches on the nearest town if at least 5 people are playing. The server announces the raid 10 min ahead.
The more players online, the bigger the wave, up to 20 monsters. From 10 players online the region's alpha leads the wave. Castle Ironfist, the starting town, gets a wave of 50% of the normal size, and the alpha joins there only with more players online. Monsters that survive 60 min vanish without loot. The exact numbers are in the "Laws of nature" table on the World health page.
The server's regular raids work as before and do not depend on the ecosystem.
Resistance adaptation
Resistance adaptation is currently disabled.
Once enabled, it will work like this: a species hit mostly with one element for a whole week gets +10% resistance to that element for the next week, at most 40% in total. Only a full week counts in which at least 6 different accounts hunted the species, each with at least 5% of its kills. A solo player or a small team will not trigger it, but a big team hitting one species all week will. Species never adapt to physical or holy damage, because a knight hits areas only with physical damage and a royal paladin only with holy.
For adaptations the server records how many kills of each species every player had in a week and keeps this for 5 weeks. The heat map on the World health page only shows where monsters die, with no player data.
In-game command
!ekosystem shows the state, health, respawn pace and bonus of the place you are standing in, plus the regions with a bonus and the depleted ones. Game messages have no Polish characters because the 8.60 client cannot display them.
